Dr. Ken Waxman, Founder
Dr. Waxman is a general/trauma surgeon who lives in Santa Barbara, California. His undergraduate education was at UC Berkley and medical education at the University of Chicago. During his career he has served as an educator and researcher as well as caring for patients.
In 2010 Dr. Waxman travelled to South Sudan as a volunteer for Doctors without Borders. There he became impressed with the devastating lack of health care and the enormous need to educate and train South Sudanese physicians. In South Sudan, Dr. Waxman also had the good fortune to meet and work with Malueth, an amazing young man who is attempting to overcome overwhelming obstacles to attend medical school in order to serve his community. Malueth inspired Dr. Waxman to found FDSS to help Malueth and others like him to become the physician leaders that South Sudan so desperately needs.
Dr. Waxman wrote a book titled Ajak's Song about the incredible people he met along his journey in South Sudan.
Ajak's Song is available for purchase on Amazon. 100% of the proceeds benefit Malueth and the other students FDSS is supporting through their medical education.
